India Super Series 2017: Saina, Sindhu, Srikanth win openers


Resurgent Saina Nehwal starts Indian Open Super Series 2017 with a comfortable 21-10 21-17 win over Chia Hsin Lee of Taiwan. PV Sindhu too wins against compatriot Arundhati Pantawane 21-17 21-6 in first round. If they both win their respective second round matches, they will meet in the quarter-finals. Rituparsna Das beat Taiwan’s Chiang Mei Hui 19-21 21-15 21-19.

Kidambi Srikanth took revenge of his 2017 All-England Open loss from Zhao Junpeng of China as he wins in straight sets 21-19 21-16. Sourabh Verma, brother of Sameer Verma, defeated HS Prannoy 21-13 21-16 in an all-Indian first round encounter.

In Women’s Doubles, Ashwini Ponappa/Siki Reddy beat English pair of Gabrielle Adlock and Jessica Pugh 21-16 21-16. Shruti Mundada/Anoushka Parikh beat fellow Indians Gauri Asaji/Megha Morchana Bora 22-20 21-8.

In Mixed Doubles, Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Siki Reddy N enter second round by defeating Indonesia’s Hafiz Faizal/Shela Devi Aulia 21-15 21-19 in the first round.

All the other Indians in main draws failed to advance.
