Sameer Verma off to a brilliant start in India Open Super Series 2017 as he upsets World No. 5 Wan Ho Son of Korea in the opening round.
Sameer needed only 45 minutes to see off the challenge from the 4th seeded Korean in straight games 21-17 21-10. The Indian, ranked 39th in the world, will now face world no. 15 Yun Hu of Hong Kong in the second round.
In the parallel court, his compatriot B Sai Praneeth came back from a game down to beat Kenta Nishimoto of Japan 16-21, 21-12, 21-19 in a thrilling contest and join Sameer in the second round.
