India Super Series 2017: Sameer Verma cruises into the Quarters


Sameer Verma continued his superb form to beat higher ranked Hun Yu of Hong Kong in straight sets 21-17 21-15 in 40 minutes to cruise into the quarter-finals of Indian Open Super Series 2017. He plays Anders Antonsen from Denmark in the quarters who got walkover from 8th seed Marc Zweibler (GER) in second round.

However it was otherwise a disappointing day for India in Men’s Singles as all the other 3 Indian men – Kidambi Srikanth, Sourabh Verma and B Sai Praneeth lost their respective second round matches. Srikanth was blanked by 3rd seed Viktor Axelsen(DEN) 7-21 12-21 in just 25 minutes while B Sai Praneeth lost to 7th seed Chou Tien Chen(TPE) 14-21 16-21. Sourabh Verma gave a good fight to 6th seed NG Ka Long Angus(HKG) before losing 19-21 21-14 20-22.
