PV Sindhu is set to climb to her career best ranking of World No. 2 when the latest world rankings will be released by the BWF (Badminton World Federation) on Thursday. Currently ranked 5th in the world, Sindhu is slated to rise to 2nd rank in the world when her points collected after the India Open Super Series win are taken into consideration.
According to the ranking process, 9200 points are awarded to the winner of the Super Series event while the runner up adds 7800 points to their tally. At the same time, points accrued over the past 52 weeks is taken into consideration. Prior to the start of the India Open, Sindhu had a collective tally of 71,599 points. This is expected to go up to 75,759 points when the new rankings are released. She will thus leapfrog Carolina Marin, Akane Yamaguchi and Ji Hyun Sung and just behind world no. 1 Tai Tzu Yin of Taiwan.
Following the win in New Delhi, Sindhu immediately left for Malaysia Super Series Premier where she’s competing this upcoming week. Her performance in Malaysia SSP will help her go closer to becoming uno numero.
