A total of 8 Indians made it to the Round of 16 of Asian Squash Championship 2017 in Chennai.
In men’s draw, Saurav Ghosal showed no mercy on his Singaporean opponent Benedict Chan as the Indian won 11-2 11-3 11-5 to enter third round i.e Round of 16.
In-form Vikram Malhotra, seeded 10th, also entered 3rd round by beating Alireza Shameli of Iran 11-7 11-8 15-13. Mahesh Mangaonkar also made it with a 11-4 11-7 11-6 win over Vivian Rhamanan of Singapore, to set up a pre-QF clash with 4th seed Yip Tsz Fung (HGK).
Harinder Pal Sandhu joined them in round of 16 by defeating Reymark Begornia of Philippines 11-1 11-5 11-4. Velavan Senthilkumar got a walkover from his Pakistani opponent as Pakistan has withdrawn from the event held in India.
In women’s draw, Joshna Chinappa & Dipika Pallikal have received first round bye for being 2nd & 4th seeds respectively.
Sunayna Kuruvilla joined them in round of 16 by upsetting 12th seed Choe Yura of Korea 11-4 11-8 11-8 in the first round.
