Asian Squash Championship 2017: 5 Indians through to the Quarter-Finals

A total of 5 Indians made it to the quarter-finals of Asian Squash Championship 2017 in Chennai.

Harinder Pal Sandhu upset 6th seed Abdulla Al-Tamimi of Qatar 4-11 11-6 8-11 11-6 11-6 in an hour long battle to book a place in last 8 of men’s draw. He will face top seed Max Lee of Hong Kong in the quarters. 

2nd seed and India no. 1 Saurav Ghosal sailed into the quarters with a 11-8 11-5 11-2 win over 16th seed Mohammad Alsarraj from Jordan.

10th seed Vikram Malhotra defeated Muhammad Addeen Idrakie of Malaysia 11-1 11-4 11-9 to set up a quarter-final encounter with Saurav Ghosal.
Mahesh Mangaonkar and Velavan Senthilkumar lost in Round of 16.

In women’s draw, 2nd seed Joshna Chinappa entered quarters by beating Jemyca Aribado of Philippines 11-7 11-9 11-7. She faces Japan’s Misaki Kobayashi next.

Dipika Pallikal also entered last 8 stage by beating 10th seed Lee Andrea Jia Qi of Malaysia 14-12 11-5 11-5.
